German roaches live indoors. The others visit

German cockroaches breed inside the building, in the warm gap behind a fridge motor, under a dishwasher, inside the hollow of a cabinet frame. They do not come in from outside and they do not leave on their own. Treating them is a job of weeks with baits and growth regulators, and it usually needs a follow-up visit.

American and smokybrown roaches are larger and come in from outside — a drain line, a garage door seal, a sewer clean-out in the yard. Oriental roaches come up from crawl spaces and basements. For those the work is at the entry point, and one visit is often enough.

Why the difference decides the price and the schedule

A visiting roach means sealing and treating a path. A breeding population means finding every harborage in the room, treating it, and coming back to confirm the growth regulator broke the cycle. A technician will say which one you have after looking behind the appliances.

If the answer is German roaches, expect a return visit as part of the job. A single spray on a breeding population is money spent on nothing.

What to say when you call

Size, and whether it was in the kitchen or the bathroom.
Whether you saw it in daylight — roaches out in the day usually means the harborage is crowded.
Whether there is anything that looks like ground coffee or pepper in a cabinet corner or drawer runner.
Whether you have seen a small one. Nymphs mean breeding inside, and that changes the plan.
